Akhilesh bungalow row: HC seeks report within 10 days
Lucknow, Jun 23 :Even as the probe into damage caused to the government bungalow vacated by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav is yet to take off, the Allahabad High Court has sought a detail report on the matter within ten days time.
The government officials, who were resorting to delaying tactics on commencing the probe, could now face problem after Allahabad High Court on Friday sought a detailed report on the damage caused.
A division bench of the High Court comprising Justices B K Narain and Rajiv Gupta issued notice to the UP government on a petition filed by one Rahul Rana of Meerut seeking action against the SP president.
However, the government counsel informed the court that the loss is being assessed and a notice would be given to Akhilesh Yadav, thereafter. Presently, a probe is underway and the inventory is being checked. They also admitted that along with the government agencies, some private company too constructed some portion in the bungalow.
The court would hear the case again on July 3.
Meanwhile, the inquiry set up to assess the damage has failed to take off as the officer heading the probe has gone on leave citing health reasons.
The Estate department kicked off a controversy after it escorted mediapersons to 4, Vikramaditya Marg bungalow allotted to Akhilesh Yadav as former Chief Minister and showed how the Samajwadi Party chief had damaged the entire house and had taken away costly fittings, tiles etc. before vacating it.
Mr Yadav was forced to vacate the bungalow on the direction of the Supreme Court. Akhilesh’s father Mulayam Singh Yadav, along with former chief ministers Rajnath Singh (at present Union Home Minister), Mayawati, ND Tewari, and Kalyan Singh too had to vacate their respective bungalows.
On the order of UP government, the PWD had set up a five-member committee headed by Chief Engineer (Housing) Sudhanshu Kumar on Tuesday last and initiated a probe to assess the total loss inflicted to the bungalow by Akhilesh.
In the process, head of PWD, VK Singh, issued an order that the inquiry would be overseen by principal engineer (planning and design) AK Sharma. Besides Kumar, the committee also included Nirman Nigam MD Rajan Mittal, chief architect and engineers of electrical and civil wing.
However, finding the probe too hot to handle as it concerned a former Chief Minister, Kumar proceeded on medical leave a day after being asked to head the probe, sources said on Saturday.
