US-Iran agree to ceasefire with Pakistan mediation

The United States and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire, stepping back from the brink of major escalation after President Donald Trump withdrew threats of devastating strikes.

Iran confirmed it has accepted the truce and will enter negotiations with the U.S. in Pakistan, which has been actively mediating between the two sides. The agreement also includes reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil route.

Israel backed the ceasefire decision but clarified it does not extend to its conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, sporadic attacks continued across parts of the region, reflecting uncertainty around the truce.

Diplomatic efforts led by Shehbaz Sharif played a key role in securing the temporary pause, with further talks expected in the coming days.
