A civilian was killed and three police personnel were injured during a police operation in the Jai Valley area of Bhaderwah in Doda district on Friday. Police said the incident occurred after a team challenged suspicious movement, leading to a scuffle during which an attempt was allegedly made to snatch a service weapon, resulting in the discharge of a single round.
The injured civilian, identified as Arif Hussain, later succumbed to his injuries at GMC Doda. Police ruled out any terror angle, stating that preliminary investigation suggests the deceased was allegedly involved in bovine smuggling.
Additional security forces have been deployed, internet services suspended in Bhaderwah, and an investigation is underway.
