Residents’ protest water scarcity in Pattan, blocks highway

Pattan: The inhabitants of Chinabal Village area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday were up in arms against Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) for failing to provide drinking water from last two months.
“The water to our village was being supplied from local water reservoir but since last two months, we are without drinking water facility. Our women have to walk in this harsh winter to fetch water from wells and streams,” said a local resident Muzzafar Ahmad Wani .
He said the water which they are drinking from last two months by fetching from wells is muddy and unsafe. “Our men, women and children quite often fell ill by drinking unsafe and mud-filled water.”
PHE official while talking to KPS reporter said admitting that there is drinking water problem because of a shortage of water supply only from last 15 days. However, we are resolving the issues.
Meanwhile, DO Mirgund police station Waseem Ahmad pacified the protesters and dispersed them  peacefully.
