The accused were not brought before the court of additional session judge Srinagar on Wednesday as the witness were present and court deferred the case till next hearing for recording the statement of witnesses.

Yasmina Kausar, wife of deceased filed a complaint in police station Soura that her husband has been murdered presumably by one of their neighbours, Ghulam Rasool Rather and his two sons who had “numerous property disputes” with the Mir family and had been threatening his husband of dire consequences.

“A police team led by SP Hazratbal Naveed Peerzada took the video footage along for investigations as it had visuals of last moments, when Mehraj left his house and was subsequently mowed down in a nearby lane” said the family.

The family says the footage showed that at around 8:50 AM Mehraj left his home on foot for some work whereas one of the accused and neighbour Altaf followed him on foot. After a few moments, Altaf was seen rushing back towards his home, from where a black SUV instantly zoomed out, driving straight towards the lane where Mehraj was walking.

But that happened next in the lane wasn’t visible in the video. Now police got to know that a CCTV camera installed at a nearby government building was focused towards the spot where the crime took place.

The deceased Mehraj Ahmad on the fateful day was found critically wounded in a lane near his house and was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

One of the accused namely Altaf Ahmad hide the number plate of the vehicle midway with the yellow cloth raised many doubtful questions, soon after the accident the vehicle has been seized while FSL team found traces of yellow cloth on the number plate.
