Jammu: Without any relaxation, curfew continued for the third consecutive day on Sunday as the Army staged a flag march in sensitive areas and UAV’s kept vigil on the situation from the sky.
Eighteen columns of the Army, which were deployed in the curfew-bound areas, were seen staging flag marches, while several persons were taken into preventive custody to maintain law and order, police said.
Curfew was imposed in Jammu city on Friday following anti-Pakistan protests and sporadic incidents of arson over the terror attack in Pulwama district of south Kashmir which left 44 CRPF personnel dead on Thursday.
Jammu’s IGP, MK Sinha, said that no untoward incident was reported during the night or Sunday morning.
The divisional commissioner and the IGP held a meeting with prominent citizens to defuse the situation.
“The situation is being monitored and a decision to relax curfew will be taken later in the day after a fresh review of the situation,” divisional commissioner Sanjeev Verma said.
“Anti-national elements have a design to divide people. They want to change the narrative of a terror incident into a communal incident. We need to stand up united and do not fall prey to their propaganda,” the officers said addressing the meeting of prominent citizens.
Many other towns of the Jammu division observed shutdown to protest against the killing of CRPF personnel. Peaceful protests were held at Kathua, Udhampur, Samba, Reasi and other towns.
Meanwhile, a shutdown was observed in Kashmir to protest against “harassment” of Kashmiris in Jammu and elsewhere in the country following the terror attack on the CRPF convoy at Pulwama.
