Elections to JKHCBA Deferred Under Protest: Bar
Srinagar, Oct 15: The elections to the J&K High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) Srinagar, scheduled for Thursday, were not held as according to the Bar, due to repeated denial without any justification by the District Administration, even though the District Srinagar has been declared an Orange Zone.
Secretary, Election Commission JKHCBA Srinagar, Mudasir Gulzar Vakil, in his statement to news agency KDC said that the election commission has already notified that the elections will be conducted in open space for which no formal permission was required.
It said, “The election commission was however, informed by District Administration at 8:00 p.m. on 14th of October 2020 not to conduct the elections, which is patently unconstitutional, illegal, unwarranted and in gross violation of democratic rights of the members of Bar Association to choose their candidates.”
The statement further said, “In the face of the situation created by the District administration the Election Commission of the J&K High Court Bar Association is left with no option but to defer the elections under protest.” (KDC)
