In an exclusive interview with Tameel-i-Irshad (sister concern of this newspaper), Managing Director of Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) Yasin M Chaudhary said that the better electricity is being provided to consumers this winter than the previous years.
He said that efforts are being continuously made to provide the “best and efficient” electricity to the consumers.
He said that during winter, the “load is much more than the load registered”, which he said needs to be taken into consideration. He said that compared to last year, 11% increase in load has been recorded.
He urged consumers not to use crude heaters and boilers and avoid illegal hooking etc.
In response to a question about the weather forecast, the Managing Director said that this year, like every year, all the measures have been taken. Among others, he said, pruning tree branches has been completed in the month of October itself so as to avoid damage to the power transmission lines due to the falling of tree branches on them.
In addition, he said, the old electricity poles were replaced wherever they were needed.
To deal with future weather related issues, he said, the teams have been kept ready.
In response to another query about the amnesty scheme, Managing Director KPDCL consumers have last chance to pay their outstanding dues in 12 installments.
“The interest amount is waived off. So far the scheme has yielded very positive results and we appeal all consumers to take full advantage of this scheme and pay their arrears otherwise their electricity
connections will be disconnected.”
To a question about the rehabilitation of workers who were killed or disabled during various accidents in line of the duty, he said accidents need to be stopped and prevented from occurring. “It is important that any employee who goes to repair the transmission line should take all precautionary measures so that human lives are not lost.”
