Trump Hails India-Pakistan Ceasefire, Offers to Boost Trade and Help on Kashmir
U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement on Thursday, praising the leadership of both nations for halting days of escalating military conflict. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump called the decision “historic and heroic,” adding that millions of innocent lives may have been saved.
“I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan,” Trump wrote. “Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions.”
Trump also claimed that the United States played a role in facilitating the breakthrough and pledged to increase trade “substantially” with both nations.
“While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great Nations,” the post read. He further offered to assist in finding a long-term resolution to the Kashmir dispute, referencing its complex and protracted history: “I will work with you both to see if, after a ‘thousand years,’ a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir.”
Trump’s comments come just hours after Indian and Pakistani military officials agreed to cease all hostilities across land, air, and sea, following intense cross-border skirmishes and drone activity. The president’s remarks signal continued U.S. interest in South Asian peace efforts, even as his comments drew mixed reactions online, with some questioning the timing and tone of the statement.
There has been no official response yet from the governments of India or Pakistan regarding Trump’s offer on trade or his remarks on Kashmir.
