The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Saturday evening issued a nowcast warning predicting rain and thundershowers across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir during the night.
According to the forecast issued at 9:45 pm, spells of rain and thundershowers are likely over many areas of north and central Kashmir, and at a few places in south Kashmir including Shopian, besides the Rajouri and Banihal-Ramban axis, during the next 3–5 hours.
The advisory further cautioned that some areas including Bandipora, the Ganderbal-Kangan-Sonamarg axis, parts of north, central and eastern Srinagar, and stretches of the Banihal-Ramban sector may witness intense heavy showers accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds in the next 1–2 hours.
The department also warned of possible landslides and mudslides in vulnerable locations. Residents have been advised to suspend shikara rides and boating activities, and to stay away from old trees, electric poles, wires, and loose structures during the spell of inclement weather.
