Ganderbal, October 7:In a determined move to promote a healthy and drug-free environment for students, Ganderbal Police has launched a special drive targeting the illegal sale of cigarettes and tobacco products near educational institutions and public places across the district.

During the extensive drive, police teams inspected several shops located in Beehama, Duderhama, Gangerhama, Kangan, Safapora, Kondbal, Gutlibagh, Shadipora, Nagbal, Gund, Kullan, and Sonamarg. Strict action was taken against violators found breaching the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).

The campaign is aimed at curbing the easy availability of tobacco products to minors and spreading awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. Shopkeepers were sensitized about the legal restrictions prohibiting the sale of tobacco within 100 yards of school premises and were cautioned against any future violations.

Reaffirming the department’s commitment towards community welfare, SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS appealed to parents, teachers, and members of civil society to support the police in this initiative by reporting any violations to nearby police stations.

With this proactive step, Ganderbal Police continues its mission to safeguard the youth from the menace of addiction and ensure a safe, healthy, and conducive environment for learning and growth.
