BJP enters fray for first 2 Rajya Sabha seats
In a symbolic move, the BJP has decided to field its candidate for also first two Rajya Sabha seats which went uncontested in previous elections.
As per list released by the Election Commission of India, Dr. Ali Muhammad Mir and Rakesh Mahajan will be contesting on the seats notified through first and second notifications, respectively.
This is unusual given that these two seats usually went uncontested due to numerical advantage to the ruling party.
Given the current system of notifications for Rajya Sabha polls, a ruling party or the ruling alliance would easily win three seats.
As previously reported by KNO, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated its state president, Sat Sharma, as the candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat notified under the third notification, where the party holds a strong chance of victory.
