SDM Zainapora Cracks Down on Mobile Megaphones to Curb Noise Pollution
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zainapora, Shopian, has issued a public notice prohibiting the use of mikes, megaphones, and loudspeakers by mobile vendors selling fruits and other consumables across the subdivision.
The order follows numerous complaints and representations from the public. Several instances were also highlighted during the Block Diwas held at Zainapora on 19-11-2025, chaired by the District Magistrate, Shopian. Residents reported that mobile vendors using loudspeakers while moving through streets, lanes, and roadside areas were causing noise pollution, public inconvenience, traffic congestion, and posing potential safety hazards.
The order states that such activities not only create noise and environmental pollution but also disturb the physical comfort and well-being of the community. The SDM noted that the manner in which these vendors operate is not approved under government norms and has become “injurious to the health and physical comfort of the community.”
Invoking powers under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, the SDM ordered that no vendor in Sub-Division Zainapora shall use mikes or megaphones while selling items from moving vehicles. The directive aims to curb public nuisance, prevent pollution, and reduce the risk of road congestion and accidents.
Any violation of the order, the notice warns, will result in strict legal action against the offenders as per the laws in force.
