The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Janata Dal United (JDU) on Monday sharply criticised the local administration for what it termed the “reckless and insensitive” handling of government-appointed employees, particularly Kashmiri Pandit migrant staff.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, JDU J&K President G.M. Shaheen, accompanied by senior party functionaries, accused the administration of subjecting migrant employees—appointed under various rehabilitation and welfare initiatives—to “systematic harassment” by transferring them to what he described as high-risk and unsafe locations.
Shaheen alleged that these transfers reflected “gross dereliction of duty” and posed serious threats to the lives of the employees. “These are not mere administrative oversights but decisions that could endanger human lives. The level of insensitivity shown by certain departments is unacceptable,” he said.
He demanded that the government immediately stop all transfers of Kashmiri migrant employees to vulnerable areas, asserting that the administration has a “moral, legal and constitutional responsibility” to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
Turning his criticism beyond J&K, Shaheen also urged the Chief Minister of Delhi to release migration-related funds that, according to the party, have been withheld for two years. He claimed that the delay has caused severe financial distress among migrant families. “Withholding these funds any further will amount to negligence towards an already marginalized community,” he said.
Shaheen added that the JDU would continue to pursue the issue relentlessly until “justice, security and rightful financial assistance” are ensured for all affected migrant families.
