Senior Congress leader Waseem Ahmad Shalla has urged the Lieutenant Governor-led administration of Jammu and Kashmir to intervene and resolve the long-pending cases of Special Police Officers (SPOs) seeking conversion to the rank of Constable under the ITI category.
In a statement, Shalla said a group of SPOs working in the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department have raised concerns over the non-disposal of their cases, which have been pending for the past several years. He said many SPOs have been serving with dedication for over a decade and possess educational qualifications higher than the minimum requirement, including 12th pass, graduate, postgraduate and ITI diploma holders.
Shalla referred to a Home Department order issued in 2009, which states that SPOs with a minimum of three years of continuous service and ITI diplomas are eligible for conversion to Constable or Follower posts, subject to qualifying prescribed tests. He said several SPOs completed ITI courses after obtaining due permission from the competent authorities and later submitted their cases through proper channels to the Director General of Police, J&K.
However, he alleged that despite repeated representations, the cases have remained pending at the Police Headquarters for nearly three years without any final decision.
The Congress leader urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally look into the matter and ensure early resolution, stating that timely action would provide much-needed relief to the affected SPOs and their families.
