JDU Calls for Governor’s Rule in J&K, Says Present Govt Has Failed

Janta Dal United (JDU) Jammu and Kashmir president G.M. Shaheen on Thursday appealed to the Government of India to impose Governor’s Rule in the Union Territory, alleging that the present government has “utterly failed” on the fronts of governance, administration and public responsibility.

In a statement, Shaheen said the continuation of what he termed a collapsed and non-performing dispensation was causing serious harm to the region. He alleged that Jammu and Kashmir is facing prolonged economic distress, stalled development works, unpaid liabilities and a breakdown of accountability due to policy paralysis and administrative indifference.

Shaheen said the government has lost its moral authority, with governance reduced to statements and slogans while key issues such as employment, infrastructure, public services, contractor payments and economic revival remain unaddressed. He alleged that the administration has become reactive and disconnected from ground realities, allowing problems to multiply.

Warning that continued tolerance of administrative failure would deepen public frustration and erode trust in institutions, the JDU leader said democracy must deliver governance, not merely occupy office.

Describing Governor’s Rule as a “necessary corrective,” Shaheen said a neutral and disciplined administration could restore order, ensure financial prudence, enforce transparency and revive stalled governance processes. He urged the Centre to take decisive action, warning that further delay would amount to complicity in administrative failure.

Shaheen said JDU would continue to raise its voice until effective governance, accountability and public relief are restored, adding that imposition of Governor’s Rule has become unavoidable in the larger interest of Jammu and Kashmir.
