Record Tourism Surge in Ladakh: May 2026 Arrivals Up 121%, Jan-May Tally Crosses 1.17 Lakh

Ladakh recorded a remarkable surge in tourist arrivals, with over 1.17 lakh visitors between January and May 2026, reflecting a 43.65 percent year-on-year growth compared to 81,827 tourists during the same period in 2025, according to Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr.) B.D. Mishra.

May 2026 emerged as a landmark month for the Union Territory's tourism sector, with 72,834 tourist arrivals — a stunning 121.20 percent increase compared to just 32,927 visitors in May 2025.

The Lieutenant Governor attributed the surge to sustained initiatives aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure, improving connectivity and diversifying tourism experiences across the region. He also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to promote domestic tourism as a contributing factor to the rise in visitor numbers.

"The surge has brought renewed optimism and confidence among tourism stakeholders," the LG said, thanking visitors for choosing Ladakh and inviting people from across the country to experience the region's unique blend of natural beauty, adventure tourism, culture, spirituality and serene environment.

Tourism remains one of Ladakh's key economic sectors, and the latest figures signal a strong revival and continued growth in visitor arrivals across the Union Territory.
