With the annual Amarnath Yatra scheduled to commence next month, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Ramky Infrastructure have intensified improvement and beautification works along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway to ensure safe and smooth movement of pilgrims.
Painting and maintenance works are currently underway at various locations along the highway, covering road dividers, crash barriers, curbstones and other infrastructure, aimed at improving visibility and enhancing road safety. Workers have been deployed at several stretches to complete the works within the stipulated timeframe before the arrival of Yatra convoys.
The Srinagar-Jammu Highway serves as the principal road link for pilgrims travelling to the twin base camps of Baltal and Nunwan during the annual pilgrimage, which attracts thousands of devotees from across the country every year.
Authorities said the objective is not only to improve the appearance of the highway corridor but also to create a safer travel environment for pilgrims and other commuters. Besides road beautification, several departments are engaged in infrastructure upgrades, traffic management planning and logistical preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the Yatra.
