‘World on the Brink’ Conference Marks 25 Years of Stop the War Coalition
Global activists, academics, trade unionists, and political representatives gathered in London for the “World on the Brink” conference, organised by the Stop the War Coalition on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.
Held at Hamilton House, the conference reflected growing international concern over escalating conflicts, rising military expenditure, and the urgent need for coordinated global action for peace.
Prominent speakers at the event included Paul Rogers, Alex Gordon, Mustafa Barghouti, Louise Regan, Sean Vernell, and Micaela Tracey-Ramos, among others. The conference was also attended by social and political figure Mustafa Kamal.
Addressing the gathering, Jeremy Corbyn reflected on the organisation’s long-standing mission, noting that its purpose has always been to unite peace and solidarity groups and mobilise public opinion for justice and peace.
International solidarity was emphasised by Legavre Jerome, who highlighted the importance of global coordination among trade unionists and political activists.
Speaking on the broader geopolitical situation, Lindsey German said that conflicts in regions such as the Middle East and Eastern Europe have far-reaching global consequences.
Meanwhile, human rights advocate Urfan Nawaz expressed concern over rising military spending and warned that the world is at a critical juncture, stressing the need to build a strong international peace movement.
The conference reaffirmed the Coalition’s founding objective of uniting organisations advocating peace and justice, while mobilising people politically against war and conflict.
Organisers also expressed gratitude to members, volunteers, and supporters for sustaining the movement over the past 25 years and pledged to continue their efforts toward global peace.
