Rs. 45 Lakh Worth Foreign Currency Seized at Hyderabad Airport, Passenger Bound for Hong Kong Intercepted
Hyderabad, April 16: Security personnel at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport intercepted an international passenger and seized a large amount of undeclared foreign currency during a routine check on Friday.
According to officials, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Crime Intelligence Wing (CIW) team identified the passenger based on suspicious behavioural indicators and profiling. The individual was scheduled to travel to Hong Kong.
During a detailed baggage screening near the departure gate, security personnel detected concealed foreign currency hidden inside the passenger’s hand baggage. A subsequent physical examination led to the recovery of USD 48,550, estimated to be worth around ₹45.28 lakh.
The passenger, along with the seized currency, was handed over to Customs authorities for further investigation and legal action.
Officials said the interception highlights the continued vigilance and coordination among CISF personnel in detecting attempts to smuggle undeclared currency through airports.
