The first batch of 431 Hajj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir departed on Saturday from Hajj House Bemina in Srinagar for Saudi Arabia, marking the beginning of this year’s pilgrimage with emotional farewells from family members.
The departure was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, who interacted with the pilgrims and extended his wishes for a safe and smooth journey.
The annual pilgrimage movement from Kashmir formally commenced with the first batch, as authorities coordinated arrangements to facilitate transportation, security, and overall management at the departure point.
Emotional scenes were witnessed at the Hajj House in Bemina, where relatives and well-wishers gathered to bid farewell to the pilgrims, many of whom were seen offering prayers before boarding vehicles for the airport.
Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar G V Sundeep said that comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safe movement of pilgrims.
“Srinagar Police has made comprehensive security arrangements for Hajj pilgrims. We are ensuring that this pilgrimage remains hassle-free. We pray that their journey is smooth and they reach safely,” he said.
Officials said necessary logistical support, including transportation and assistance at designated points, has been arranged to streamline the process for pilgrims.
The departure of the first batch signals the start of a series of scheduled flights carrying pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir to Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam.
Authorities have advised pilgrims to adhere to guidelines and cooperate with officials to ensure smooth conduct of the process in the coming days.
The Hajj pilgrimage draws thousands of devotees each year from the region, with arrangements made in phases to facilitate their travel and stay.
