Budgam to Get Intelligent Traffic Management System

The Motor Vehicles Department has prepared a comprehensive transportation and mobility framework for Budgam district, proposing AI-based surveillance, automated enforcement systems and modern traffic management tools across key corridors.

The report, prepared by 'Team Enforcement' under the MVD, recommends an Intelligent Traffic Management System comprising AI-enabled CCTV surveillance, Automatic Number Plate Recognition, speed detection cameras, red-light violation detection, GPS-based bus tracking and integrated e-challan mechanisms. Officials said the system would improve traffic discipline and enable real-time monitoring across the district, which connects Srinagar city, the airport corridor, tourism destinations and rural areas.

The report also proposes intensified enforcement, including permit verification, fitness inspections, overloading checks and emergency exit inspections in buses, along with identification of accident-prone locations, road safety audits and improved pedestrian infrastructure and signage.

It further recommends expansion of public transport infrastructure, dedicated parking, bus bays and improved rural connectivity as part of a broader effort to modernise transportation governance in the fast-growing district.
