A fresh spell of intense rainfall is expected across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 hours as an approaching Western Disturbance interacts with active monsoon winds, significantly enhancing rainfall across the Union Territory, weather experts said.
According to Kashmir Weather, the Jammu region is likely to witness heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, raising the risk of flash floods, landslides and overflowing rivers and streams. Water levels in several rivers may approach or cross flood alert or danger marks depending on the distribution of rainfall.
In Kashmir, widespread moderate to heavy rainfall is expected, with isolated areas likely to receive very heavy showers. The risk of flash floods, cloudbursts and a sharp rise in water levels in rivers and tributaries, including the Lidder, Vishow Nallah and the Jhelum, remains high.
Experts warned that landslides, shooting stones and lightning pose significant risks, particularly in hilly and vulnerable areas, and advised people to avoid unnecessary travel through landslide-prone stretches and remain away from streams, nallahs and low-lying areas during the wet spell.
Intermittent rain is expected to continue beyond the next two days, with weather conditions remaining unstable through the week.
