Life crippled in Handwara due to shutdown

Srinagar, Sep 5 : Normal life was today affected as shops and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the roads in parts of north Kashmir district of Kupwara in protest against the killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including a ‘divisional commander’, in an encounter.
Officials told UNI that there were no restrictions imposed in any part of Kupwara though security forces remained deployed in strength to stop any violence.
However, according to the District Magistrate Kupwara, class work shall remain suspended in all schools and colleges as a precautionary measure in Handwara, which is the native place of one of the two militants killed yesterday.
Even though there was no strike call by separatists, majority of the shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Handwara.
But, few private vehicles could be seen plying on some interior roads. (UNI)
