Second Batch of Hajj 2025 Pilgrims Departs for Mecca Amid Tight Security
The second batch of Hajj 2025 pilgrims departed for Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, even as airspace restrictions briefly disrupted flight operations in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The first batch of pilgrims from Srinagar had left on May 4, marking the beginning of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage from the Union Territory.
Airport officials confirmed that flight operations at Srinagar and Jammu airports resumed smoothly on Tuesday. However, in Jammu, only four out of six scheduled flights were able to operate due to temporary closure of the airspace late last night. The restriction followed drone activity detected in the Samba area, prompting heightened security measures and a brief suspension of air traffic.
Despite the disruptions, authorities ensured that Hajj-related flights were prioritized and arrangements proceeded without any major delays.
Officials said all necessary facilities, including medical assistance, logistical support, and coordination teams, have been put in place at the embarkation points to assist the pilgrims.
The Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, draws thousands of pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir each year. The remaining batches are expected to leave in the coming days, depending on flight schedules and security clearances.
