MLA Gulmarg, Farooq Ahmad Shah, inaugurated the Summer Cup 2025 tournament in Tangmarg today. With 48 teams participating from across the Gulmarg Constituency, the tournament is a major step towards promoting sports and youth engagement in the region.
During the event, Mr. Shah stressed the need to encourage young people to take part in sports to build a healthier society and help steer them away from the dangers of drug abuse. “Such tournaments play a key role in guiding our youth towards positive and constructive activities,” he said.
He also announced that sufficient funds have been earmarked for the development of Tangmarg Ground, and assured that Kunzer Ground will also be upgraded to better serve local sports talent. Plans for a modern indoor stadium in the Gulmarg Constituency were also revealed, aiming to provide year-round facilities for aspiring athletes.
Speaking on the broader development vision, Mr. Shah highlighted the government's strong focus on reviving tourism in Kashmir. “Our Hon’ble Chief Minister Jenab Omar Abdullah is personally committed to bringing new life to Kashmir’s tourism industry. With teamwork and dedication, we will see our valley flourish once again,” he stated.
Later, Mr. Shah visited hospitals in Tangmarg and Kunzer, directing the BMOs to enhance healthcare services and ensure that patients receive proper and timely care, with no room for negligence.
