To mark the occasion of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Central Government Pensioners Welfare Association (CGPWA), Kashmir, organized a cleanliness drive today in the lawns of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital, Srinagar.
The event coincided with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a day observed annually across the country to promote cleanliness and hygiene.
The drive witnessed active participation from the members of CGPWA Kashmir, with its President, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, leading the initiative. The Superintendent of SMHS Hospital also joined the effort, underlining the collaborative spirit of the campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, President Rizvi emphasized the deep-rooted connection between cleanliness and religious, moral, and civic responsibility. “Cleanliness is not just a civic duty but a spiritual one. Every element of nature—be it roads, rivers, or air—has rights. Polluting these is akin to violating their natural rights,” he said. He further added that keeping the surroundings clean is essential not only for human well-being but also for protecting the environment and maintaining ecological balance.
Rizvi stressed that the worsening state of the environment calls for urgent action from all sections of society. He expressed hope that such initiatives would inspire the community to rise to the occasion, respect nature, and work towards a cleaner and greener Kashmir.
The event concluded with a pledge by participants to continue supporting cleanliness and environmental conservation efforts in their respective capacities.
