Second BRICS Employment Working Group Meet Begins in Thiruvananthapuram
The Second Employment Working Group (EWG) Meeting under India’s BRICS Presidency 2026 will be held in Thiruvananthapuram from May 6–7, bringing together member nations to deliberate on key labour and employment issues.
Representatives from BRICS countries—including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and newly inducted members—will participate in discussions focused on social security expansion, labour market formalisation, women’s workforce participation, and skills development.
The meeting will also explore the role of digital public infrastructure in improving access to welfare benefits, particularly for gig and platform workers. Member States are expected to share policy experiences and identify areas of cooperation.
Key international organisations such as the International Labour Organization and International Social Security Association will provide technical inputs during the deliberations.
The meeting builds on outcomes of the first EWG session held in March and will help shape recommendations for the BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting scheduled later this year.
