J&K Writer Mir Shokat Wins Indian Literature Award 2026 for Urdu Historical Writing

Noted writer, columnist and poet Mir Shokat from Jammu and Kashmir has been conferred the Indian Literature Award 2026 by the Indian Literature and Arts Society, Bengaluru, for his outstanding contribution to historical literature in Urdu.

The award, announced by Society President Pankaj Kumar, was primarily attributed to his book "Mere Hissa Ka Poonch", which chronicles the history, culture and lived experiences of the Poonch region through compelling storytelling and meticulous research.

The Society noted that Mir Shokat's writings reflect authenticity, emotional depth and a profound understanding of historical context, and expressed hope that the recognition would inspire emerging writers from J&K to explore their own literary traditions.
