Authorities imposed tight security restrictions around the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar on July 13, preventing political leaders and the public from visiting the site.

Several mainstream leaders, including PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Education Minister Sakina Itoo and National Conference leaders, claimed they were either placed under house arrest or stopped from reaching the cemetery.

They paid tributes through statements or at party offices, while criticising the restrictions. Large deployments of security personnel and barricades remained in place across the area to prevent gatherings.
