Srinagar: A policeman of Special Operation Group (SOG) was killed in an encounter at Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday.
A police officer told GNS that a joint team of army and SOG cordoned off the Mir Mohalla area of Hajin today morning following a specific information about the presence of two militants.
As the joint team intensified the searches, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate fire triggering off an encounter.
In the ensuing gunfight a policeman identified as constable Zaheer Ah if SOG received serious bullet injuries and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, the officer said
Meanwhile, official sources said that the operation has been called off as the militants managed to flee from the spot amid protests and stone-pelting clashes around the encounter site.
