Cabinet nod to bill on banning triple talaq

New Delhi, Dec15 : The Union Cabinet on Friday cleared a Bill that seeks to ban the controversial practice of ‘triple talaq’ among Muslims.

The bill, which got the Cabinet approval at a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is now expected to be introduced in the winter session of Parliament that began here on Friday, sources said.

The Supreme Court had in verdict given in August banned the practice of triple talaq in one go, declaring it is unIslamic and unconstitutional.
