Government came in the aid of teacher couple to regain jobs
Srinagar, Dec 15: The Authorities have stepped in to help a teacher couple to regain their jobs in a private institution, the Muslim Educational Institute (MEI) Pampore, which sacked the couple for their marriage on November 30.
Education Minister Syed Altaf Bukhari said the teachers would be retained in the school as they have not committed any wrong.
“Director education has taken up the matter with the school management. By now the issue must have been resolved if there is no other complaint against the couple except for what was reported in the newspapers,” he said.
Tariq Ahmad and his wife Sumaya Tariq, both residents of Arigam, Tral, were teaching in the same school but in two different wings: Tariq in the boys’ wing and Sumaya in the girls wing. They got married and the school’s principal had called Tariq on his wedding day, informing him that he has been sacked for marrying his colleague.
“What is wrong even if they loved each other? They performed Nikah and their wedding was solemnised by their parents,” Bukhari said. (Kashmir Wire)
