Two civilians killed, nine injured in Shopian army firing
SRINAGAR, JAN 27 : Two civilians were killed and nine others injured after army opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora village of Shopian district in south Kashmir on Saturday.
Reports said that youth pelted stones at an army party in Ganowpora village which was responded by army by opening fire, resulted into injuries to eleven people.
Hospital sources in Pulwama said that four injured were brought to the facility for treatment among one injured, identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat (20) of Balpora, was brought to the hospital with critical head injury. He succumbed at the facility, said a source.
They said that the two injured, identified as Adil Ahmad (19) and Suhail Ahmad, are being treated at the hospital.
However, another youth, identified as Rayees Ahmad Ganai (21), was shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
They said that another youth, identified as Suhail Javid Lone (24) of Rawalpora, was shifted to PHC Rajpora where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police has registered a case against the army. SSP Shopian Shriram Ambarkar told PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR they have registered an FIR against the army.
