6 policemen killed, 14 security personnel injured in Quetta bombings

QUETTA 26 apr: At least six policemen were killed and several others, including eight FC personnel, were wounded in separate suicide blasts in Quetta on Tuesday.

In the first attack, eight members of paramilitary FC were wounded when two suicide bombers struck their check-post in Mian Ghundi area.

Minutes later, a suicide bomber hit a police van on Airport Road, killing six cops.

The Civil Defence DG has confirmed that all were suicide attacks. He said two suicide bombers loaded with 8 to 10 kilograms of explosives attacked the FC post.

Moazam Jah Ansari, Quetta´s police chief, said the bombing of the police truck was so powerful that the vehicle overturned.

The bomb disposal squad has cleared the area after conducting a search-and-sweep drill.

The injured have been taken to CMH hospital.

Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack and said “the sacrifices of our martyrs stand tall against the vile ideologies that condone terror.”

The minister blamed Kabul for terror attacks in Pakistan and said “till the safe havens of terrorists prevail in Afghanistan, peace can’t be guaranteed in Pakistan.”

Hizb-ul-Ahrar, a little-known splinter group of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has claimed the responsibility for the bombings. However, the claim could not be independently verified.
