Div Com Kashmir orders closure of Leh highway till further orders
Srinagar Nov 22: The highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the Kashmir valley, will remain closed from 22 November 2018 Thursday (today) till further orders, said an official here Thursday afternoon.
According to the order issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan: “In view of the report received from deputy commissioner Ganderbal on 21 November 2018 regarding bad weather and slippery condition of the road surface on Zojila, thereby endangering the life and property, it is hereby informed for information of general public that Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road Zojila Pass shell remain closed for all types of vehicular traffic with effect from 22nd of November 2018 till further orders.”
The 434-km highway acts as a major lifeline to the frontier region. The Zojilla Pass, 140 km from Srinagar, is a vital crossing point on the mountainous highway and receives the heaviest snowfall in winter, shutting it down for nearly five months each year.
