Srinagar, Apr : The first of its kind decontamination and sanitization tunnel was on Thursday installed in Chest Disease hospital in the summer capital, Srinagar, to combat the spread of Coronavirus in the valley.
Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu said that the first Decontamination and Sanitization Tunnel was manufactured and commissioned by SMC. “It has started operating at Chest Diseases Hospital, #Srinagar! Overjoyed by the response by the frontline health workers and doctors! Proud of our Mech Engineers,” Mattu wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Mattu said SMC will cover every hospital, adding 16 more tunnels are under fabrication.
Thanking Mattu for installing the tunnel, Head of Department, Chest Disease Hospital Srinagar, Dr Naveed Shah said safe and effective chemical is being used for disinfection. “Kudos to our dynamic mayor @Junaid_Mattu @MayorofS for installing sanitation channel in chest diseases hospital.. first its kind in Kashmir… uses safe and effective chemical for disinfection,” he twitted.
Eight more persons, including five from Jammu and three from Kashmir, were on Thursday tested positive for Coronavirus, taking the total number of infected people to 70 in J&K.
Meanwhile, the first person to be tested positive for the infection in the valley was discharged from hospital after fully recovering. Another COVID-19 positive patient admitted in C D hospital in Srinagar tested negative for the infection on Thursday. (Agencies)
