2 drug peddlers arrested, contraband recovered in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jun 24 ; Two drug peddlers were on Wednesday arrested alongwith contraband in this summer capital.

A police spokesperson said that officials at a checkpoint established at Shampora Chowk intercepted a vehicle with two persons onboard. “During checking, police recovered 544 banned capsules of Simplex and Spasmoproxyvon Plus from them,” they said.

They said duo, identified as Moomin Mazoor Kak and Samam Bashir Shah were arrested a lodged in Police station Nowhatta. “Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized by the officers,” they said.

He said accordingly, a case FIR No. 27/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Nowhatta and investigation has been taken up.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police has resolved to deal robustly with drug peddlers,” he said.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
