Junior Cricket Championship concludes at DPS, Srinagar
Srinagar: The finale of the Junior Cricket Championship U-17 was held in the school playground of Delhi Public School, Srinagar on 20th May, 2017. It was grand event jointly organized by DPS, Srinagar and J&K State Sports Council. The final match was played between the two qualifying teams of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Zainapora Shopian and New Greenland Educational Institute, Sumbal, Bandipora.
The Junior Cricket Championship was the first of its kind sports event which catered to a total of 320 teams comprising of 4800 students hailing from all the 10 districts of Kashmir valley and 319 matches were conducted throughout the tournament in various districts of Kashmir, over a period of 3 months.
Hon’ble Chief Minister, Madam Mehbooba Mufti was the chief guest of the mega event. Despite a busy schedule she honored the event with her presence which was itself an encouragement for the organizers as well as the participants. She encouraged the budding sports talent while interacting with a group of students of the school and watched the match. The Minister for IT and Youth Services & Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari also watched the match alongside Hon’ble Chief Minister. He awarded the winning team and the runner up teams with trophies and cash prizes. The winning team (New Greenland Educational Institute, Sumbal, Bandipora) was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, the runner up team (Govt. Higher Secondary School, Zainpora Shopian) was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and the 3rd position team(Dr AGM’s City School, Nowgam Srinagar) was given Rs 25,000. The man of the match and man of the series were also rewarded. Participation certificates were given to all the participating players. The coordinators of the event were also given appreciation certificates.
Hon’ble Chief Minister, Madam Mehbooba Mufti initiated Junior Cricket Championship and it was fully supported by the Ministry of Youth Services & Sports. Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Mr Waheed Ur Rehman Para participated in most of the events. Hon’ble Chief Minister, Madam Mehbooba Mufti & Hon’ble Minister for IT & Youth Services & Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari complimented Delhi Public School Srinagar for making this largest ever cricket tournament in the history of J&K, a grand success.
Hon’ble Chief Minister thanked the participation of the audience which came from various districts and schools of the valley, and almost 7000 children, teachers and participants attended the grand finale of Junior Cricket Championship.
