Team sent to investigate trout fishes death in Mawer Nallah of Langate

 SRINAGAR, FEB 02 : The state administration on Friday sent a team to Mawer Nallah in Langate area of Kupwara district to investigate the pouring in of chemical in the nallah, officials said.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmed Khan while talk to PTK said that that a team comprising has been sent to the Mawar to investigate the matter.

Earlier, many trout fishes died after miscreants poured some chemical in the Nallah.

An official said that the police is investigating the incident and water samples from the Mawar stream have been sent for necessary testing to determine the cause of the deaths. Some dead fish weighed more than two kilograms.

More than 14000 trout fish were found dead Friday morning at a farm in Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.

They said that some chemical sprayed into the Mawar nallah feeding the farm located at Katlery might have caused the deaths.

“The chemical was so effective that it caused deaths of more than 14000 fishes in trout farm in a few minutes,” said Showkat Ahmad, Additional Director Fisheries Kupwara who along with senior police and civil officers visited the spot.

The authorities have also issued an advisory asking people of at least 24 villages not to consume water from the stream till it is cleaned. A large number of fish in Mawar nallah also died due to the chemical, the official said.

 A team of experts from Srinagar has reached at the spot to examine the poisonous water and help determine the exact cause of mortality of fish, he added.

People have also been asked not to consume water from lift pumps including Sherhama, Pohrupet and Panditpura.

Soon after the incident, Govt constituted a team and directed them to visit the Nallah to ascertain the facts. He advised people to avoid using water till it is ensured to be safe. “Police and technical expert team are on their job,” he said.

SHO Mawer Qalamabad, Abdul Ahad Jan said, “People are strictly advised not to use tap water till the matter is properly investigated.” The official said the use of insecticides has poisoned fishes.

Police is investigating the motive behind the poisoning by miscreants, he added.

Meanwhile Er Rasheed said that the army in Mawer has done this by mistake. He said that they may have some chemical which they put on the side of Nallah through that it came into the Nallah and this incident happen.

He said that whosoever is involved in this crime will be punished as per the law. Rasheed Feather appeal people not to worry about water and problem will be solved within hours.  (PTK)
