State Taxes Commissioner Reviews Kashmir Division’s Compliance Drive, Pushes Tech-Led Enforcement

Commissioner State Taxes J&K, P.K. Bhat (JKAS), on Thursday chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the State Taxes Department, Kashmir Division, to assess progress on tax compliance, enforcement and revenue monitoring across the region.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner State Taxes Kashmir, Patveez Ahmad Raina (JKAS), along with State Taxes officers from all circles of the Kashmir Division.

The Commissioner reviewed action taken on cases identified through BISAG, audit cases, and demand raised and realised for 2021-22. He also took stock of action against non-filers, taxpayers who received TDS payments but failed to file returns, scrutiny cases for 2022-23, credit flow scrutiny and follow-up on departmental notices.

The review further covered action against taxpayers whose registrations have been cancelled and those who filed R1 and passed credit but did not file GSTR-3B.

Noting the revival in tourism activity, Commissioner Bhat directed special focus on circles with a predominant hotel industry to check revenue leakages and ensure proper tax compliance in the sector.

He emphasised leveraging technological tools — PRIME, DISAG and FIFA — for more effective compliance monitoring, detection of irregularities, fraud prevention and promotion of fair trade practices, while simultaneously ensuring taxpayer facilitation and accountability.

In his concluding remarks, Additional Commissioner Parveez Ahmad Raina appreciated officers' efforts and urged all circles to intensify follow-up action, dispose of pending cases in a time-bound manner and maintain a proactive approach toward revenue realisation, with close attention to sectors with higher compliance sensitivity.
