Mehbooba expresses anguish, shock over death of tourist in stone pelting
Srinagar, May 8 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed deep anguish and shock over the death of a tourist from Chennai in stone pelting in the central Kashmir district of Budgam.
Ms Mehbooba immediately after hearing the news about the death of 22-year-old R Thirumany, resident of Chennai, visited the police hospital in Police Control Room (PCR) last night.
She met the family members of the deceased tourist and expressed solidarity with them in this time of grief.
Official sources said some vehicles were caught when stone pelting was going on at Narbal on the city outskirts on Srinagar-Gulmarg road on Monday, when there was a strike call by separatists against the killing of five civilians and as many militants in Shopian on Sunday.
Thirumany and a local girl were injured in the stone pelting, they said, adding the injured were rushed to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), where the guest from Channai succumbed.
Police has registered a case and initiated proceedings, they said.
Last week seven tourists were injured when their vehicle was stoned on Anantnag-Pahalgam road. However, locals chased away the stone pelters and shifted them to hospital.
