19 fishermen feared drowned near Kakdwip
Kakdwip, Jul 17 : At least 19 fishermen were feared drowned when three trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal midnight last night.
Fishermen Welfare Association president Bijoy Maity on Tuesday told UNI that Indian Coast guard personnel and coastal police of West Bengal have pressed into service their speed boats in search of the missing 19 fishermen.
The mishap happened lat midnight, he added.
Maity said some 4000/5000 fishing trawlers sailed into deep sea early Monday morning as the weather was bright, but it started deteriorating fast from dusk.
While most of the trawlers started returning to Kakdwip, three trawlers – Moleswar, Joykrishan and Shivani – sank in the turbulent waters.
Moleswar sank near Chaimary island, the rest met watery grave near Ludialdi island.
