Hami Hails Caliphate of Umar (RA) as Model of Justice
Allama Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami, President of Karwan-e-Islami International, on Wednesday described the Caliphate of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) as a timeless model of justice and leadership, calling it an unmatched example of governance in human history.
Addressing a large gathering at the Faizan-e-Awliya Conference held at Central Jamia Masjid Tangmarg, Allama Hami said Hazrat Umar’s rule embodied the core values of the Madinan state and remains relevant across religious and ideological lines. “Even non-Muslim thinkers study and admire the justice system of Hazrat Umar (RA). If applied globally, it could help eliminate injustice, unrest, and social imbalance,” he said.
Highlighting a pivotal moment in Islamic history, he noted that the acceptance of Islam by Umar (RA) was celebrated even by the heavens, as it marked the beginning of Islam’s bold and public proclamation.
The event coincided with World Anti-Drug Day, prompting Allama Hami to express grave concern over the escalating drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir. He warned that substance abuse is steadily corroding the moral and social foundations of society, likening its impact to a cancer that is spreading unchecked. “Without immediate and coordinated action at the local level, the damage could become irreversible,” he cautioned.
He urged both government agencies and community organizations to adopt grassroots strategies to combat drug addiction, stating that “international policies will only work when rooted in effective local implementation.” Allama Hami also outlined Karwan-e-Islami’s ongoing efforts to address the crisis, including the establishment of spiritual centers aimed at rehabilitating youth and guiding them toward a more purposeful life.
The conference concluded with a traditional Dastarbandi (turban-tying) ceremony honoring graduating Huffaz from Darul Uloom Payamia, followed by the distribution of academic certificates to students.
