SIDBI Delegation Visits IUST to Strengthen MSME Ecosystem

The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED – IUST Foundation) at the Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) welcomed a high-level delegation from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) at its Campus-III in Awantipora.

The delegation, led by Shri Sunil S., General Manager and Regional In-charge, Chandigarh SIDBI, along with Mr. Dheeraj Verma, Assistant General Manager, SIDBI Srinagar, and other senior officials, was warmly received by Prof. Parvez A. Mir, CEO, CIED – IUST Foundation, and Mr. Sameer Wazir, Finance Officer, IUST.

During the visit, the SIDBI team met with Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, IUST, to discuss areas of mutual collaboration, particularly in strengthening the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) ecosystem in the region. Prof. Romshoo highlighted the university’s efforts in skilling and capacity-building, especially in emerging sectors such as photovoltaics, electric vehicles, and green energy. Discussions also focused on promoting large-scale adoption of energy-efficient business practices.

The delegation engaged in a detailed interaction with Prof. A. H. Moon, Dean of Academic Affairs, IUST, and key stakeholders including representatives from PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), Mr. Shahid Khan and Mr. Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, and Mr. Adnan Masood, President, Industrial Association Wuyan.

Participants of the SIDBI-sponsored STEM and Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP) on Transformational Leadership for Micro and Small Enterprises also took part in the interaction. Entrepreneurs candidly shared their experiences and challenges, particularly around financial planning and access to credit. The SIDBI team assured that tailored solutions would be explored to support these entrepreneurs.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured state-of-the-art technical facilities at Campus-III, including the C4i4 Lab, AICTE IDEA Lab, and the UltraTech Cement Lab. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Basharat, Coordinator CPMSB, along with his team.

The event marked a significant step toward fostering institutional-industry collaboration aimed at sustainable regional development through entrepreneurship, innovation, and skill development.
