The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Janta Dal United (JDU) has strongly criticized the Central Government over the absence of direct train services from Srinagar to Jammu and Delhi, calling it a long-pending and urgent requirement for the region.
In a statement issued on Friday, JDU Jammu and Kashmir President G.M. Shaheen urged the Union Railway Minister to immediately announce direct rail connectivity, stating that the continued delay has caused immense hardship to the people of the Union Territory.
Shaheen said it was “deeply unfortunate and unacceptable” that even after decades, residents of Jammu and Kashmir remain deprived of safe, affordable, and reliable rail transport. He pointed out that the lack of direct train services forces people to rely on dangerous, expensive, and often unreliable road travel, affecting students, patients, workers, and daily commuters.
The JDU leader alleged that the delay reflects administrative apathy and a lack of political will at the Centre. He emphasized that direct rail connectivity is not a luxury but a necessity for economic revival, employment generation, and sustaining the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Seamless rail connectivity with the rest of the country is essential for national integration, inclusive development, and public welfare. Any further delay is a clear injustice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Shaheen said.
The party warned that if the Centre fails to address the demand with urgency, JDU Jammu and Kashmir would intensify its political and democratic efforts to press for the issue in the larger public interest.
