Ladakh Admin Fines Four Tourists for Illegal Off-Roading in Protected Wildlife Areas

In a first-of-its-kind enforcement drive, the Ladakh Administration imposed a total fine of ₹2 lakh on four tourists for illegally driving vehicles through Pangong Lake and other protected wildlife areas.

Acting on the directions of VK Saxena, the Wildlife Department, Ladakh fined each violator ₹50,000 under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 after violations were detected through patrols and social media monitoring.

Officials said strict action will continue against off-roading in ecologically sensitive areas, including Changthang Cold Desert Wildlife Sanctuary and Karakoram (Nubra-Shayok) Wildlife Sanctuary, to protect Ladakh's fragile ecosystem.
