Class work suspended in Kashmir
Srinagar: Schools and colleges were today closed in majority of the places in Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, Kashmir University (KU) has postponed all examinations scheduled for today in view of the restrictions imposed in the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) as a precautionary measure to prevent any law and order problem.
The authorities ordered closure of educational institutes in majority of the areas in the valley to prevent any protests by the students against killing of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) chief Abu Ismail and his associate, both residents of Pakistan, in a brief encounter with security forces in the outskirts of Srinagar yesterday.
According to the district authorities of Srinagar, Anantnag, Shopian, Bandipora and Kupwara, teaching activity will remain suspended in all colleges and schools in their respective districts today. Meanwhile, class work also remained affected in other parts of the valley.
A spokesman of the KU said that all examinations which were scheduled to be held today have been postponed.
Authorities have in the past about six months suspended class work in educations institutes many times as precautionary measure. Last year during the summer unrest, educational institutions remained closed for about six months.
