The District Police Handwara organized a one-day training-cum-workshop focused on the investigation of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases at the District Police Office (DPO) Handwara.
The workshop, held under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Handwara, Shri Mushtaq Ahmad-JKPS, was attended by all Government Officers (GOs) of the Police District Handwara, including the Senior Prosecuting Officer, all Station House Officers (SHOs), In-Charge of Police Posts, and investigating officers handling NDPS cases.
In his inaugural speech, SSP Mushtaq Ahmad emphasized the importance of the workshop in enhancing the investigative skills of the officers. He highlighted the need to strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols while investigating NDPS Act cases. During the workshop, various case studies, including both convictions and acquittals, were discussed in depth.
The Senior Prosecuting Officer provided a detailed overview of the NDPS Act, stressing the importance of adhering to relevant sections and SOPs to prevent any lapses that could undermine the prosecution and result in acquittals.
At the conclusion of the workshop, SSP Mushtaq Ahmad expressed confidence that the officers and investigating officers (I.O.s) handling NDPS cases would apply the knowledge gained to conduct thorough and professional investigations.
He stressed the need to close any potential gaps in investigations that could lead to acquittals, as seen in previous cases, and urged officers to work towards improving the conviction rates for NDPS cases.
