JKCSF Thanks Government for Introducing Borewell Registration and Regulation
The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), under the chairmanship of Abdul Qayoom Wani, expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, the Department of Public Health Engineering (PHE), and all concerned stakeholders for mandating the registration and regulation of bore wells and tube wells in the Kashmir province.
Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani hailed this decision as a long-awaited and much-needed step to address the region's growing water crisis. He emphasized that JKCSF had vehemently advocated for government-supported measures to regulate borewell digging and groundwater usage, especially amid the alarming depletion of water resources in the valley.
The implementation of this directive under the Jammu & Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority (JKWRRA) regulations of 2010 and 2011 is a progressive move towards sustainable management and protection of groundwater, which is a vital resource for the present and future generations.
"This decision reflects the government’s serious commitment to preventing groundwater exploitation and tackling environmental challenges. It marks a significant step towards sustainable development and water security in the region," said Abdul Qayoom Wani.
JKCSF urges all individuals, industries, and organizations to strictly comply with the registration and regulatory requirements within the stipulated timeframe. The forum reaffirms its commitment to collaborating with the authorities to safeguard water resources and address the concerns of the community.
This measure will be a monumental achievement in the fight against the water crisis and sets the stage for a more sustainable and secure future for Jammu
